Change order of categories in categorical data element#384

I’ve noticed this in a few nests where the categories are defined out of order, and it’s very easy to make a mistake in extraction. For example, if the categories are mRS 0, mRS 1, …mRS 6 and they’re completely out of order, it’s easy to put the data in the wrong category.

It’d be nice to be able to re-order the categories after configuration. Ideally, they would be correctly configured and ordered the first time, but I’ve seen it happen a lot where for some reason they aren’t properly ordered.

Thanks @Nicole_hardy – I can understand how this would ruin a nest post-collection if the configuration was done incorrectly.

I know that order matters for many of our categorical DEs; I can imagine that this is less of an issue for DE’s that are order-independent (like race).

I support this request, but would love further feedback from others on this pain point!

I specifically want this because it’s a problem in flow diverters. It’s going to be a pain to QC 200+ studies and the categories are out of order.

Even if no one else wants this feature, are we able to fix the order of categories of some DEs in Flow Diverters separately?

I think we can explore a nest-specific fix if we don’t get to this feature in time, let’s discuss independently.

Seconding this request! I’m working on a nest that has calcified lesion severity categories of none, mild, moderate, moderate/severe, and severe, and we added the initial set in order, but then ended up including studies that reported non-calcified lesions and adding a moderate/severe category to accomodate how the data is frequently reported, and now it’s confusing to look at in the nest and the exported data (which obviously can be fixed by rearranging columns in Excel). We have relatively few studies, so it’s not going to be a big deal to work around, but wanted to second this!

My suggestion for a fix would be an up/down arrrow next to the category names in configuration, so new categories could be bumped up in the list to move them further to the left in data extraction and vice versa

I totally get this request– it can be very annoying if new ‘middle’ categories are needed! Bumping up in priority & upvoting
