Advancing records when adjudicating a Different Option#429

During a screening adjudication I performed recently, we didn’t want to select Screener 1 or Screener 2’s screening decision (e.g., 1 said full text review, 2 said include), but we had to physically click Screener 1 or Screener 2’s decisions in order to progress in the module. What we ended up doing was selecting a different exclusion reason in the dropdown menu to represent the adjudicated screening decision, then selecting whichever screener’s decision was probably closer to our final adjudicated decision, but it was unclear to us whether the adjudicated decision would actually be attributed to the record.

Could you provide an answer to the above? And would you consider including some indication in the platform about what the final adjudicated screening decision attributed to the record is in the case of trying to diverge from Screener 1 or 2’s decisions? This would be helpful as a user. Thanks!

Hey Alex– Good question, the practice we envisioned was actually overriding BOTH Screeners’ decisions in that case. To do so, once you use the drop-down, you should select the “Exclude” button right below the drop-down, which will override both underlying Screeners (see screenshot).

For seeing the final decision, you should be able to see the final decision in the same panel for Individual studies (for Included, it will note “included” in the left corner; for Excluded, it will note “excluded” and will note the reason in the drop-down, and then you can use Inspector to see the final Screening decisions across studies.

Does the above make sense? Let me know if you’re still having any issues with it, or if you have suggestions on clearer ways to show this information!

Kevin’s comment is relevant to Inspector, in sequential mode, the interface is slightly different (attached). “Select a Different Option” is what you’d want Alex.

I’m noticing that (incorrectly) hitting include/exclude here does not advance to the next record. Is that your concern Alex?

@Karl Holub Yes, that’s the concern exactly! We were selecting a different option but could not get the module to advance unless we clicked on one of the preliminary screening decisions

Clicking a prelim option will override the your “Different Option”, unfortunately.

  1. In the short term, select a “Different Option”, then hit “Skip” (counterintuitive, but it works)
  2. We’ll fix this ASAP, so that a “Different Option” inlude/exclude advances to the next record automatically

Resolved in release 1.40.0. Thanks for pointing out this oddity!
