Confused by distinction between "Settings" and "Admin Settings"#445

I feel like the distinction between admin and settings isn’t clear. I would put them together on one page and call it “Settings”

We are consolidating these! In short, Settings is currently accessible to all users, Admin is accessible only to Admins. However, we agree, and we’re senescing Setting. Thanks!

To add a little more to this - there are some settings, per our security policies & user-roles, that cannot be exposed to all users. We do not allow standard users to invite to users to a nest, only admins; we don’t allow standard users to delete a nest. Other “settings”, such as “User Keywords” did need to be modifiable by all users in the nest, hence a page distinguishing the two classes of users.

But, as Kevin mentions, we are eliminating the user level Settings page. As you’re pointing out, it’s confusing, and we think we can better position user-level settings (e.g. User Keywords were recently moved to the Abstract viewer itself, we’ll be moving protocol editor to live directly on the nest home page).

The paradigm moving forward:

  • Existing “Settings” page will not exist.
    • Existing user-level settings will be positioned more intuitively
  • “Admin Settings” will become “Settings”, only accessible to nest admins
