File naming for zip file full text download too long#467

E

I often run into trouble extracting the zip files from downloading the full texts in study inspector because using the full title as the file name makes it too long combined with 1-2 layers of folders. I end up extracting them to a higher level folder, changing the file names, and moving them to the appropriate folder. I know it would be tricky to make sure that each file has a unique name, but a shorter naming convention (ex AuthorYear with letters for multiples, or even limiting the characters from the title) would be much more convenient!

I support this principle! It sounds like you’d prefer human readable, to short/unique/machine-friendly (e.g. doi/pmid)?

We could resolve duplicate filenames using the classic AuthorYear(n) scheme, or yes, a truncated title as you recommend.

Going to leave this issue open for a while to see what others think.

I’ll also point out that #450 may provide an easy solution here as well (at least for duplicates).

I wouldn’t mind doi/pmid/NK study ID, but we do send the exports to clients fairly frequently, so human readable would be preferred for that. My top vote would be AuthorYear(n), but definitely open to other options!
