Empty tag- can't delete#487

Some of my studies have a completely blank tag (no tag name or tag text) that I can’t remove. It does say that it was applied by me at 10:01 am 11/10/22 for every study, so I suspect it’s from the “No full text” tag that I bulk applied to generate a spreadsheet for the article hunt list yesterday and then deleted today (ie deleted the whole tag from the tag configuration). It’s not really affecting anything, but seems like a bug!

Let me know if you need any other info! I added NK as an organization to the nest, so you should have access, but let me know if not.

That is truly bizarre - are you still seeing it? When I look at your example study I see only “normal” tags (with what appears to be a new one applied today).

Regardless, I will try to replicate by doing a bulk apply + delete!

That’s very strange– I just checked the example you sent, and I don’t see the blank tags? Did you figure out the issue? Or perhaps it resolved by deleting after you had left the page?

I clicked through the other included studies and didn’t see the issue; let me know if it recurs!

That’s so weird, I do still see the blank tags! I’m on a deadline at the moment, but I’ll try clearing my history/cookies/cache later to see if it’s local to my computer.

RE deadline: Please let me know if you need any assistance QAing/cleaning up issues in your nest related to this bug.

I made a copy of our production database and used our “be a user” mode to pretend being Erin; still not able to reproduce in Chrome or Firefox. I also inspected our database and all 5 tags applied here looked standard. So I’m left wondering if there’s some browser weirdness on your end: what browser/version are you using?

Thanks Karl! This won’t affect the project product at all, so no problem there. I’m in Firefox 106.0.5 (64-bit), but interestingly the empty tags don’t show up for me in Chrome, and I’m also having trouble adding new tags to the hierarchy in Firefox, but not in Chrome (tags I try to add in Firefox don’t show up in the hierarchy and aren’t available to be added to studies, but they do show up in the nest in Chrome after being added in Firefox), so it is looking like it’s a local Firefox issue. I’ve already tried restarting Firefox, but I’ll still try clearing everything once I’m done with today’s work and see if that fixes things!

Great - that’s helpful information, and your FF is up to date & same version i’ve been testing on.

Based on symptoms, my next guess is that Firefox is caching the result of our server call to get your tags. If true, clearing your cache or using a cache-reload (ctrl-shift-r) on the page would make the new tags pop in.

Cache configuration can be browser specific, and it may be the case that:

  • you need to change a browser setting aroud respecting cache directives/duration
  • we need to update cache directives coming from our server

(sorry to keep pinging you, feel free to ignore!)

No problem! Cleared my cache and the blank tags went away, so I’ll be looking through my browser settings to see what’s different (recently changed to a new computer, so it might be a default on this new install of firefox that wasn’t on my old setup) Thanks for looking into it!
